Monday Morning Rant: Milk vs. Half & Half
Milk vs. Half & Half
Okay, so you read the title. Don’t sit there like it doesn’t really matter just as long as you have your morning cup of coffee. Well, it matters to me and it is a rant I have when ordering a cup of coffee. Ever enter your favorite coffee house, order your cup of coffee and just as you are paying for it or after the Barista informs you that they are out of creamer! “What? You can’t be serious!”, runs through your mind at a mile a minute as you graciously smile, take the cup of coffee and reluctantly walk over to…do what? Add some sugar and ask yourself over and over again how come you never came to drink it black?
I’m calm now, as just the thought really boils my blood. A simple cup of cream with coffee is how I enjoy it unless it is a truly great cup of coffee in which I prefer to taste every bit of its beany goodness coupled with the aroma it leaves floating around.
If you like milk then tootles for you. I’m more than happy to inform you that every coffee house from here to Washington State Starbucks is right up your alley…just not mine.
Dreams Do Come True
If someone would have told me 20 years ago that I would be a wife, mother of four very respectful and ultimately handsome young men, a successful business owner and a full time adult student I would have laughed so hard it would have disrupted the town. But, here I am…20 years later and just that!
Originally, I had a structured time line of all I planned to accomplish during each phase of my life span. It’s funny how things work out exactly as they were suppose to; just not on our own time or how we dictate! I can’t complain no matter how many hurdles I had to leap to reach the finish line. The next race is still to come, but I am truly blessed and thankful for all things along the way. I am who I am today, not by ease or living someone else’s plan, but by that which was written for me and the gifts I’ve nurtured since I was exactly three years old! From drawing, writing and creating I always knew the Entrepreneur inside me. As often as I would drown myself in corporate jobs and unfulfilling positions the void still remained. I never stopped dreaming! Just when several doors seem to slam shut in my face there was a crack in one door and just the little light that came through allowed me to find my way, open that very door and become who I am today!
I hold dear, “Each one, teach one” and without it this post wouldn’t exist. Everyone of us dreams, and my message to each and everyone of you, “Dreams do come true! Never give up on what you believe!” I gauge my success not by money, but according to my ability to fall, and get back up again.
“If you see me out and about, don’t talk to me about where I’ve come from or what I’ve done but where I’m going!” ~ Sonja
Monday Morning Rant: Obstacles
Obstacles
Obstacles are some of the most challenging test to overcome. While recently preparing for an event, I learned that I was unable to market the event as planned. This became obstacle number 1.
Within a matter of hours, I then found what signs I was able to distribute either removed by nearby business owners and left for garbage, or those that outright vanished into thin air. Obstacle 2
In a quick phone call to my mommy (yes I still call her that!) I was able to hear those words I can’t get enough of (I’m sure we all have at some point) once again, “When you’re doing good there is always someone that wants the opposite!” This was later second by my husband’s, “Haters will be haters!” and my sister’s, “You knew this when you began, it’s not like it’s new so I don’t see what the problem is!” I simply laughed! That’s all you can do. What seemed like that which I had to overcome, I simply had to brush off and divert my energy to a new route! Instead of climbing over the hill placed in front of me I simply decided to walk around it!
What a Monday…or not!
Still laughing,
Sonja
Monday Morning Rant: Encouragement
It’s Monday, and I like to blow off steam in the beginning of the week to make for a much smoother transition throughout the week!
Encouragement is something many take for granted. Whether it is a simple motivating word, quick note, card or other act of support it can be the deciding factor for many when it comes to moving forward.
While there are those that believe they are never encouraged, I advise them to take a step back and realize that encouragement isn’t always a show of favor. At times, it can seem as if everyone is against your next move, or spilling out negativity whenever you need support. But, the fact of the matter is that everyone is entitled to their own unique way of supporting one another. Most times, we take for granted that someone may be giving us adivice or lack there of based on their own unique experience(s). How can someone be in favor or tell you to hike the Grand Canyon, yet has never been there and is not aware of any dangers? Would, “Go ahead! Hike the Grand Canyon! You deserve to because you’re a great person! When are you leaving?” be the advice you are seeking? Yet, it sounds and can appear motivating and supportive. Have you asked yourself, “What is their motive for encouraging you?” See, I personally look at both sides of the coin before determining the value.
Is it fair? Is it fair to ask someone something they are not good at deciding? What if it makes them uncomfortable or they have agreed that they can be a little bias? I’m sure most of us have our fair track record of bad advice or that considered, “not so good” that we have dished out. If you are wise, you normally retreat before getting cornered into a “Help me decide my future crisis!” initiated by someone else.
Why can’t people just decide for themselves what to do? Why do people get so angry and/or so wicked and dwell on someone’s lack to encourage and throw it in another’s face constantly? If they don’t get it, they probably never will; well not on your time anyway! Got it? Good. Just move on, be appreciative of what is around you because it could be much worse, grow up and start making adult decisions on your own! Even if it is the decision to get new company! Decide for yourself already and stop blaming others for what you are not so sure of yourself!!!

Shape Up for Spring!
Spring has sprung and you’re wondering where to begin? Well, if you are like many other women that are deciding to hit the gym first; this article is for you! While thumbing through my April issue of Fitness I came across a great article about “Walking your way slim!” As a former distance runner looking for health and fitness alternatives I was impressed with the workout. I have looked to Fitness Magazine for years when it comes to getting fit, recipes, and references that are true that provide real results!
Walking for 45 minutes 3-4 days a week and doing low impact exercise can burn up to 1300 calories per week! If exercise isn’t your thing and you would rather shy away from anything longer than 5-10 minutes then I suggest the 10 Minute Trainer! This series of videos kick butt! After my first 2 minutes I was ready to through in the towel. Not only was I sweating, but I felt the burn! Now for those ladies that need a riveting challenge there is always P90X and P90XPlus! I personally wouldn’t be able to do it based on my schedule…”yes, I’m making up excuses!” I have one word for P90Xers: “Why?”
When you’ve decided what works best for you, gather all the necessary tools: new fitness sneaks, your DVD player, towel, 32 ounce water bottle, heart monitor watch, yoga mat and any other necessary items. Always remember to have fun! It’s important to keep a light heart while achieving your fitness and personal goals. By setting small challenges/goals you are more likely to reach your overall goals! The working out to get fit, and working out to loose weight or fit in a new pair of jeans works differently with different individuals. Choose wisely how you shape up for Spring!
Once you’ve reached your goal(s) reward yourself! A new outfit, donate money saved on eating in, girl’s night out, or something you really wanted but held out on! Enjoy! You deserve it!
